Mould testing is an essential step in maintaining a healthy and safe home or business. By identifying hidden mould we help you take action to protect your heath, your property or your tenants. Our air tests and surface tests are analysed in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited laboratory to the strictest standards.
Air Sampling
Air samples are taken from around the property using a special pump to collect the any airborne particles on a microscope slide. An outdoor control sample is taken to give us a baseline mould level for comparison.
Surface Sampling
Swab samples are taken from surfaces where we suspect that mould may be growing. These give accurate data on the specific type of mould.
Laboratory Analysis
Samples are sent straight to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited lab. The AI lab technician then scans each air or surface sample to catalogue every particle found.
WHY MOULD TESTING?
As the public become more aware of mould associated heath risks there is an increasing demand for mould testing. HEALTH RISKS
Mould exposure can lead to various health problems, including respiratory issues, allergic reactions and aggravation of asthma. For immuno-compromised individuals mould can be especially harmful and we know that damp and mould primarily affect the airways and the lungs but they can also affect the eyes and skin. Respiratory issues caused by mould can be serious and in the most severe cases can lead to death. The very sad death of a little boy called Awaab Ishak was attributed by the coroner to long term mould exposure in his Rochdale home. There is no way to tell what types of mould are in a property just by looking, many of the most dangerous black moulds look like other more harmless types, the only way to truly know is to test.

Is mould bad for my health?
While small areas of mould on tile grout are unlikely to cause any harm, large outbreaks on walls and ceilings are proven to cause harm to humans. The NHS states “…if you have damp and mould in your home you’re more likely to have respiratory problems, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma. Damp and mould can also affect the immune system"
What areas do you cover?

What causes mould?
There are many causes of mould but the main driver is the presence of moisture, humidity and dampness in a building. In the UK, particularly the South West and Wales, we have very wet weather with long periods of cold and humid weather. These conditions can lead to mould growing on walls, windows, ceiling and hidden places throughout a house. Our independent surveys and mould testing can help you identify the causes of the mould so that long term prevention can be carried out.
What happens if mould is found in my house?
All of our mould testing includes a moisture assessment/damp survey of the property during which we will identify any issues which may be leading to mould growth. The report you receive will detail the action steps we recommend that you take to resolve the mould. There is no 'one size fits all' approach to fixing damp and mould issues.
Is mould making me ill?
This is a question which we cannot answer for you. We are experts in damp buildings, less good at diagnosing health issues. Generally speaking the NHS is comfortable stating that mould can make people ill, however, we cannot give more specific health advice than that.

Why would an asthma sufferer work with damp and mould?
Well, that's what my doctor asked me with a genuinely baffled look on her face! And it is a good question, why would I work with damp and mould when I suffer with asthma? The honest answer is that I love buildings and I want every body in the UK to live in a warm, dry and healthy home. It shouldn't be a lofty goal and yet somehow it is. After a decade on and off the tools in construction I realised that so many of the problems I see in homes are down to a lack of understanding around how moisture moves in a building. This is the knowledge which could immediately improve the lives of so many people and it is this which gets me up in the morning. Yes, I am a damp nerd and proud of it.
